About us

              Office of Atoms For Peace (OAP), formerly known as the Office of Atomic Energy for Peace (OAEP). The organization was formed on 25 April 1961, under the Atomic Energy for Peace Act of 1961.

              In 1962, the Thai Research Reactor (TRR-1) began operation. It was the first crucial step in development of nuclear technology for education, medicine, agriculture, and industry in the country. OAP, as national authority, is responsible for ensuring safety of users and public from radiation and nuclear utilizations by educating the public, and regulating the use of nuclear energy.

              Moreover, as one of IAEA member states, Thailand has committed itself to developing the peaceful use of atomic energy. Thus, OAP is also the organization which responsible for organizing signings of national and international agreements, such as those of the IAEA.

              The main goal is to develop peaceful use of nuclear energy in Thailand to the same levels as in developed countries.


Introduction  
            

              Office of Atoms for Peace (OAP) has been established to play the role to regulate the use of atomic energy in Thailand at the highest levels of reliability and safety for both the users and the public. Hence, OAP has been functioning as a committee responsible for granting licenses for the production and utilization of nuclear energy and radioactive materials.

Vision 

              The Office of Atoms for Peace is the principal organization for policy and strategic plan development and administer peaceful application of nuclear energy in meeting with the international practice and standard for sustainable development.

Mission 

              1. To initiate the policy and strategic foundation of nuclear energy application.
              2. To administer the peaceful application of nuclear energy in compliance with the international standard.
              3. To represent the center for domestic and foreign relations.
              4. To disseminate information on nuclear energy and relevant matter to the public.

Functions 

              1. To be the Secretariat of the Atomic Energy for Peace Commission (Thai AEC)
              2. To regulate safety utilizations of radiation and nuclear materials.
              3. To co-ordinate formulation of national policy and strategic plans on peaceful utilization of atomic energy.
              4. To co-ordinate and support national security relevant to atomic energy issues.
              5. To co-ordinate and carry out commitments and obligations with international organizations and with foreign institutes.
              6. To co-ordinate and carry out technical co-operation with organizations in Thailand and abroad.
